In observance of Juneteenth, a significant date in the nation's history, the City of Memphis will close government offices next Wednesday, June 19. As a result, residents who rely on city trash collection services should be aware of adjustments to the pickup schedule. According to the city's announcement, collection services will be delayed by one day in recognition of the holiday.
Residents who normally place their trash carts at the curb on Thursday should do so instead on Friday, June 20, as collection will be shifted due to the holiday. To ensure timely service, the City advises having carts set out by 7:00 a.m. on the rescheduled pickup day. Customers with regular collection on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday will not see any changes to their schedule.
However, this service pause does not apply to all areas of the City. Residents in neighborhoods served by Team Waste, which operates under contract, can expect their trash collection to proceed as scheduled, with no interruptions on Juneteenth.
The city’s solid waste management team advises that pickup of excess trash and yard waste may be limited during the holiday week. Residents with additional waste are encouraged to plan accordingly, as curbside collection may be more restricted than usual.
