According to Memphis Police Department reports, the assailant approached the victim, who was seated in her Hyundai Santa Fe, brandishing a firearm and demanding her belongings. In a bout of fear and quick thinking, the victim managed to escape with her keys, leaving the car running as she sought help.
Details surrounding the attempted theft, which occurred just after 10:30 p.m. in the 4200 block of Summer Avenue, reveal the suspect's earlier attempt to shoplift from a nearby business. The suspect, identified as a Black male with a faded haircut, was reportedly donning black jeans, a red shirt, and black and white shoes.
Witnesses in the vicinity or those with potential insight into the identity of the suspect are being urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH. A small black handgun was the weapon used in the crime, intensifying the call for public assistance in apprehending the individual responsible.
