
A tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a man earlier this week in an area that's no stranger to traffic collisions. Authorities are currently seeking the public's assistance in tracking down the suspect who remains at large after the fatal encounter.
The incident took place on Wednesday, June 25, at approximately 10:21 p.m. at the intersection of East Mallory Avenue and Watson Street, according to a report from the Memphis Police Department, when responding officers discovered a male victim who had been riding a go-kart and was struck by a vehicle that was subsequently identified as a silver 2006 Chevrolet Malibu and after the collision, the driver of the Malibu abandoned the car and fled on foot leaving the man on the scene where he was pronounced dead.
Law enforcement described the hit-and-run driver who is still at large as a Black male, roughly 6 feet 1 inch tall and between 160-180 pounds, he was last seen wearing a light blue shirt and pants, and was notable for his "popcorn" style hair; the investigation still ongoing and authorities are fervently working to gather more information.
Memphis Police are actively seeking assistance from anyone who might have witnessed the crash or may have information about the suspect's identity or whereabouts, they urge members of the community to come forward as the smallest detail could prove crucial, urging potential witnesses to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH where they can provide anonymous tips.
