For those who frequent White Station Road for their weekday commute or local errands, heads up – you're going to need to reroute your journey come next Wednesday. According to an announcement from the City of Memphis, a section of White Station Road, specifically between Park Avenue and Poplar Avenue, will see its asphalt veins severed from 7:00 a.m. until roughly 4:00 p.m on June 18, 2024, as Norfolk Southern railroad undertakes necessary track repairs.
While no through traffic will be permitted in this stretch during the repair window, local traffic can still creep up to the edge of the work zone near Poplar Avenue. As anyone familiar with city travel knows, the suggestion to take an alternate route isn’t just friendly advice—it’s a warning. For this occasion, motorists are advised to use Poplar Ave., Estate Drive, and Park Ave. in a detour plan that feels a bit like an urban gauntlet.
It is the responsibility of Safety Services & Supply to ensure that the detour and closures do not create significant traffic congestion. Information-hungry drivers—or the simply curious—can contact Geoff Reeder at Safety Services & Supply at 330-749-1906.
