Miami-Dade County is stepping up its efforts to protect the environment by encouraging residents to recycle cardboard all year long. The Department of Solid Waste Management has opened multiple Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs) across the county where locals can drop off cardboard, including used shipping boxes, any day of the year. "Creating a cleaner, greener Miami-Dade starts with simple actions — and recycling cardboard is one of them," Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava told Miami-Dade.gov in a statement.
Cardboard recycling in Miami-Dade County is now easier due to a growing network of drop-off locations launched by the Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM). As part of its Zero Waste Master Plan, the department is encouraging residents to flatten and drop off their cardboard at any Trash and Recycling Center listed on the DSWM website. The initiative aims to reduce landfill waste and promote community-wide sustainability. New and existing recycling sites are spread throughout the county, including key locations in Moody Drive, Eureka Drive, West Perrine, Sunset Kendall, Richmond Heights, and Golden Glades—ensuring access from the northwest to the southernmost areas of Miami-Dade.
Aneisha Daniel, PhD, Director of Miami-Dade Department of Solid Waste Management, emphasized the need for community awareness: “Informing the public about responsible recycling habits is essential to our long-term zero-waste goals, and it is another example of how we’re working to enhance waste diversion and support community-wide sustainability,” explained Dr. Daniel, according to a release on the county's website.
