The Fourth of July holiday is expected to bring changes to Miami-Dade Transit's service schedule this year, with the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) announcing adjustments designed to accommodate the special date. On July 4, which falls on a Friday, Metrorail and Metromover will operate on a weekend schedule, while Metrobus and MetroConnect will provide Sunday service. MetroLink services, however, are set to take a holiday breather, offering no service on county-observed holidays, as stated on the county's notice.
Those looking to navigate the city during the holiday should note that Miami-Dade County offices will be taking a break, closing their doors on July 4. This closure rolls over to all administrative, Customer Service, and Special Transportation (STS) offices under the DTPW. Despite the closures, the STS has a lifeline for its users – the reservation number stays afloat, available for customers to book or cancel an STS journey, as Miami-Dade County's announcement details.
In this digital era, Miami-Dade makes sure that services persist online. EASY Card users can continue to purchase or top-up their travel cards at their convenience through the Transit Store or the GO Miami-Dade Transit app, along with alternative platforms such as the Token Transit app, Citymapper, and the Transit app. Contactless payment also remains an option for fare transactions, streamlining the process for tech-savvy commuters.
Additional online services include the ability to apply for a new Golden Passport EASY Card on the DTPW's dedicated online page, or to report lost items via the Lost and Found portal. And for those residents eager to keep a pulse on the transit beat, there’s the option to sign up for transit alerts at miamidade.gov/alerts or follow DTPW's regular updates on social media, including Facebook, X, and Instagram.
To ensure the public is well-informed about special events, service perks, and transit news, Miami-Dade invites locals and visitors to subscribe to Mobility 305, the department’s monthly newsletter.
