Minneapolis is getting a dose of cultural celebration this Juneteenth, as the Soul of the Southside Festival takes over the intersection of Lake and Minnehaha. Ward 9 Councilmember Jason Chavez spread the word with a social media post, inviting the community to immerse themselves in an event dedicated to Black culture and liberation from 12PM to 8PM.
"Happy Juneteenth, Minneapolis! Make sure to stop by Lake and Minnehaha today from 12PM-8PM for the Soul of the Southside Festival," Chavez wrote.
Attendees can expect a vibrant display of artistic talent, with music that promises to lift the soul and food that tells a story of heritage with every bite. It's not only a feast for the senses but also an educational journey that celebrates the monumental contributions of Black Americans. It is, as Chavez puts it, a "powerful fusion of history, art, music, food, and education."
Highlighting the "brilliance of Black creatives, businesses, and community organizations," this festival is set to showcase what Juneteenth is truly about, liberation and the ongoing pursuit of equality. Flyers for the event circulate across social platforms, echoing Chavez's sentiment that the festival "ignites the spirit of Juneteenth and Black Liberation by centering the richness of Black culture." It's these type of gatherings that not only honor the past but fuel the future of a community that has long thrived against the odds.
