A nearly four-year-old saga has come to a close as a little girl, missing since she was an infant, has been found in a Chicago home, officials confirmed. The discovery ended a harrowing chapter that began back in November 2021, when the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services reported both the then 1-month-old baby and her biological mother missing. According to ABC 7 Chicago, the mother was sought on multiple warrants, including retail theft in Cook County, stolen property in Orange County, California, and robbery in Signal Hill, California.
Following up on a tip, Chicago police, together with the U.S. Marshals, focused their search on two potential residences. Reports indicated a small girl, appearing to match the age of the missing child, was seen peeking out from a second-floor window at the Chicago location. The breakthrough occurred on January 1, when Chicago police sought assistance from federal agents to pinpoint the child's location. On June 3, after careful surveillance, law enforcement officials forced their way into the home and found the girl. In the ensuing commotion, her mother made an attempt to escape but was promptly arrested, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago.
The recovered child has since been returned to the protective arms of the DCFS, as per ABC 7 Chicago. Officials have not disclosed any details about the location or the individuals involved.
