Good news for bridge enthusiasts; less so if you're planning on hitting the road this Friday night. MoDOT has announced that starting from 10:00 p.m. on Friday, and stretching into the wee hours until 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, there will be some disruptions to the flow of traffic for those traveling south on Interstate 55. Specifically, the exit from southbound Interstate 55 to Route A will be off-limits. This temporary inconvenience is slated for the installation of girders for the new bridge over Central Avenue, weather permitting.

Drivers cruising along southbound Interstate 55 during these hours should be aware that the closure includes one lane of the interstate, in addition to the exit to Route A, according to MoDOT's statement. With Route A being a popular thoroughfare for locals, the detour will undoubtedly add a few extra minutes to the night's commute. Motorists will be redirected to exit at the I-55/McNutt interchange or the I-55/US 67 interchange, employing US 61/67 as a means to shuffle back to Route A.

A detour might be a minor setback but it's not without its signage. Navigating the detour won't be a shot in the dark; MoDOT has confirmed there will be signs in place to guide drivers along the new, albeit brief, journey. They will illuminate the path from southbound Interstate 55—shining like beacons through the night—guiding vehicles toward either the I-55/McNutt or I-55/US 67 interchange, and eventually, back to the sought-after Route A.
