In a recent incident, a Murfreesboro firefighter adopted a kitten that was rescued from a flooded storm drain. According to a social media post by the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD), the rescue took place last night after residents reported hearing cries coming from the drain.

MFRD's Ladder 4 and Rescue 4 crews responded to the scene and put on water rescue gear to enter the flooded area. The rescue effort was guided primarily by the sound of the kitten’s cries. "The kitten could be heard crying—but not seen," the MFRD explained in their social media release, noting the urgency and challenges of the nighttime operation.

The team located and removed the wet kitten from the drain. “We’re happy to report the kitten was rescued, dried off, and warmed up with a towel,” the MFRD stated, describing the actions taken following the rescue. The kitten was assessed to be in good health after the incident and was placed in a new environment.

One of the firefighters involved in the kitten’s rescue has adopted the animal. As noted in the MFRD post, “And even better—one of the firefighters who helped save the kitten is adopting it as the newest member of his family!” The adoption marked the conclusion of the incident and established a new home for the rescued kitten.
