A man has been charged with criminal homicide following a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday night just outside his Walker Terrace apartment. Tony Wray, 29, is accused of killing Charqwan Howse, 26, in an event that seems to have escalated from a domestic dispute, according to Nashville Police Department officials.
The response by officers was near midnight when they discovered Howse, critically injured on the sidewalk. Despite rendering aid until the Nashville Fire Department arrived, Howse succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Found present at the scene and armed, Wray was detained by officers who also recovered the handgun. While being critically wounded, the officers managed to recover the handgun from Wray.
Detectives took Wray and several witnesses to the police headquarters for questioning, where the narrative began to unfold. The incident reportedly arose after Wray's pregnant girlfriend alleged she had been physically assaulted by him. Following the altercation, she reached out to a relative who promptly arrived with Howse to confront Wray.
According to officials, the deadly shooting happened when Howse, the girlfriend's relative, and another woman engaged Wray in a heated exchange about the assault on the front porch of his apartment. Witnesses stated that Wray shot Howse without provocation during the confrontation. Found on the front porch, the argument with Wray ended with Howse's death.
Wray's charges are not limited to the death of Howse. He also faces two counts of aggravated assault involving his girlfriend and an additional count for assaulting another female witness at the scene. As this case unfolds, the authorities continue their investigation and appeal to the public for any further information that may help bring clarity to this tragic incident.
