
New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) officials have launched an investigation into a homicide that occurred in the city's Fifth District. The crime scene was located at the intersection of North Prieur Street and Franklin Avenue, as per a report released by NOPD News.
The NOPD responded to a miscellaneous complaint call at approximately 8:35 p.m. last night. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male victim, unresponsive due to multiple gunshot wounds. He was, pronounced deceased at the scene. NOPD News detailed that the case was initially labeled as a miscellaneous complaint before being reclassified as a homicide after the discovery.
Investigative efforts are currently underway to ascertain the identity of the perpetrator(s) and uncover any potential motives behind the incident. As of now, further details about the case remain scarce, suggesting that the probe is in its early stages.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office is expected to undertake an autopsy to confirm the precise cause of death, as is routine in such investigations. Following the autopsy, the office will also be tasked with identifying the victim, and, notifying the next of kin. No information has been disclosed regarding suspects or arrests in connection with the shooting.
