Yesterday, a homicide investigation was launched by the New Orleans Police Department after a body was found in the grass along the 21700 block of Chef Menteur Highway. The NOPD News reports that the incident was first noted at approximately 4:34 p.m., after a passerby discovered the body and alerted authorities.
Detectives who arrived at the scene initially could not determine the gender of the victim, and it was reported as an unknown female. The subsequent investigation, later on, revealed that the victim was in fact an unknown male according to the NOPD. As information and evidence continue to be gathered, investigators are working to identify the person, or people, responsible for the homicide and to understand the motive behind this crime.
Currently, there are no further details available on the case. The NOPD is processing the scene for evidence, speaking to potential witnesses, and seeking any surveillance footage that could shed light on what transpired.
The identity of the deceased, as well as the official cause of death, will be released by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office. This will be done after the completion of an autopsy and once the family has been notified. Those who might possess insights or knowledge concerning the incident, still are urged by the NOPD officers to come forward and offer their testimony.
