Heads up, drivers! If LA 1 is a part of your regular route, get ready for some changes. Starting this Thursday night, all northbound traffic that's been using the old LA 1 Northbound bridge to get onto I-10 East will need to pivot to a new path. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, your new way on to I-10 East will be via a freshly minted exit ramp off the new LA 1 Bridge.
With the current bridge shuffling off the mortal coil of the traffic world, it's going to be out of the picture for good. Barricades will be up, leading drivers away from the old and towards the new. While transitions can be bumpy, the DOTD has put up plenty of signs and message boards to make sure you know where you're going—even if the bridge, burdened with temporary concrete barriers, won't know where it's going.
Now, the thing about construction is it loves company, and by company, we mean your car, stuck in traffic. Expect some potential slowdowns, especially if you're hitting the road when everyone else is. The DOTD is pushing for motorists to keep their speed down, eyes open for signs, and minds aware of the construction crew and their gear making moves in the work zone.
The switch-up is all part of a bigger game plan to replace the LA 1 Port Allen Canal Bridge. It's an update we've all been waiting for, even if it comes with the growing pains of learning new traffic patterns.
