Miami Beach residents and organic food aficionados have cause for celebration, as a new Whole Foods Market is slated to open its doors at 1901 Alton Road. According to Local 10 News, this new location is part of an expansion wave that includes an additional store at 2910 Biscayne Boulevard, where customers were greeted on opening day with complimentary coffee and baked goods.
The forthcoming Miami Beach store will encompass a sizable 40,000 square feet, designed to offer a wide selection of fresh produce, organic essentials, and a considerable parking area that incorporates 271 spaces. A $54 million construction loan from Ocean Bank is funding the project, earmarks it, as a significant progress for the formerly idle site, with connections to developers Russell and Marisa Galbut of Crescent Heights and GFO Investments, respectively. Whole Foods is deepening its roots in Miami Beach, not far behind the organic food trail blazed by the original Whole Foods on Alton, and a nearby Trader Joe's.
As reported by the Miami New Times, in addition to fresh groceries, the new Whole Foods will feature a Wells Fargo branch, adding convenience to the mix. The store at 1901 Alton Road is expected to open by fall 2026, joining the existing network of Whole Foods Markets across Miami, such as the Edgewater location that opened its doors today, showcasing a hot bar, kombucha on tap, and a special selection of local products.
The Edgewater store gives a taste of what might be in store for the Miami Beach location, with a Cuban-style coffee bar, an assortment of baked goods from local providers, and a prepared foods section. "The Miami store’s product assortment will feature more than 500 local items from more than 130 Florida suppliers," as stated by Local 10 News, highlighting the chain's commitment to local vendors. The company is also continuing its philanthropic outreach through food donations to The Caring Place and partnership with Urban Oasis Project and Lotus House.
Shoppers can expect the typical high standards Whole Foods is known for, which includes a ban on hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup, and many synthetic additives. As seen in other Whole Foods locations, the Miami Beach store is likely to offer Amazon Prime member deals, and a state-of-the-art palm-based payment system known as Amazon One.
