Two individuals were transported to area hospitals with injuries described as not life-threatening after a car crash involving three vehicles in Newburyport yesterday. Emergency services from the Newburyport Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene at the intersection of Route 1 and Pond Street around 4:03 p.m., where they encountered a 2022 Tesla Model 3, a Toyota 4Runner, and a Toyota Corolla that had been involved in the collision.
The jaws of life were used to extract the driver of the Tesla, ensnared by the wreckage at the driver's side. To prevent the electric vehicle from moving or inadvertently being started during the rescue operations, responders used an electric vehicle emergency plug, a precaution specific to the nature of Tesla vehicles. According to Boston 25 News, fire crews also capitalized on a specialized electric vehicle app that provided them with crucial, Tesla-specific information aiding their strategic approach in the safe removal of the trapped driver.
As emergency services worked on-site, mutual aid was at the ready, with the Amesbury Fire Department on standby to provide additional support if necessary. The operation culminated with the successful transport of the injured parties to the hospital, and the clearing of the crash site within two hours of the initial call, as reported by NewsLinkLive. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Newburyport Police Department.
