A 15-year-old boy, Dominic Flowers, died in a hit-and-run incident in Newton County on the Tuesday evening last week. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, deputies responded to Highway 36 near Hummingbird Lane, where they found Flowers deceased at the scene.
The Newton County Sheriff's Office has arrested 17-year-old Joseph Ghebraamlak of Gwinnett County in connection with the case. He has been charged with first-degree vehicular homicide and hit-and-run. Ghebraamlak is currently held at the Newton County Detention Center.
The vehicle involved was described as pearl white. The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate and has asked for anyone with additional information to come forward.
Flowers' family has launched a GoFundMe to raise $5,000 for funeral and burial expenses. The campaign had raised $1,400. 11Alive also reported on the fundraiser, noting that it had reached $1,000 at one point.
Details about the final moments leading to the crash remain limited as the investigation continues.
