The Norman Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the in-custody death of a 61-year-old man identified as Jeffrey Brake. According to official reports, police initially responded to a call for a welfare check on Saturday morning after Brake was found crawling in a roadway, appearing to be under the influence of narcotics. Following this incident, he was arrested and subsequently transported to a local hospital before being booked into detention on a public intoxication complaint.
Brake encountered the law enforcement again the next morning when officers returned to Norman Regional Hospital for an additional welfare check. Brake was once again found on the ground near the ambulance bay, leading to a second arrest for public intoxication and his return to the Cleveland County Detention Center.
