On May 31, Oakland Area officers of the California Highway Patrol spotted a black BMW speeding along Interstate 880, near High Street, at a velocity decidedly over the legal limit; the car was clocked hitting 91 mph in a zone designated for 65 mph. The officers made a traffic stop when the vehicle exited 29th Avenue, where it came to a halt, according to a post on Oakland CHP's social media.
The man behind the wheel didn't just trigger the speed gun but raised suspicion of DUI, with the officers noting impairment signs that were significant enough to result in his arrest after a DUI evaluation. However, it was during an inventory of the vehicle that the situation escalated further, officers found not only a loaded .40 caliber handgun tucked away in the glovebox but also stumbled upon two bags of what turned out to be ketamine stored brazenly in the driver’s door.
The driver, whom the authorities have not named, then found himself en route to Santa Rita County Jail, facing a slew of charges including driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a loaded firearm.
