An ordinary greeting card turned into a significant drug and firearms bust in Oakland when a K-9 unit detected methamphetamine at Santa Rita Jail. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office, through a post on their official Facebook page, revealed that the card, initially meant for an inmate, set off a chain of events leading to the arrest of 47-year-old Dominic Lucero.

The series of discoveries began with the K-9's alert, which spurred the Santa Rita Jail (SRJ) Investigation Unit to probe the card's origins, leading them to the Oakland resident who has a history with the law, investigators then garnered a search warrant and last Tuesday, they dug into Lucero’s residence where they found not just a stash of various illicit substances but also firearms and cash. One of the guns was ominously connected to a felony case in Colorado. The grim inventory spanned 232 grams of methamphetamine, 41 grams of fentanyl, 24.9 grams of cocaine, 2.7 grams of heroin, a spray bottle with liquid methamphetamine, three firearms, and $4,301 in cash.

Following these findings, Lucero faced immediate arrest and a subsequent booking into SRJ with multiple felony charges hanging over him.
