The tranquility of Discovery Bay Marina was shattered on Sunday when a reckless boating incident involving a ski boat chasing a personal watercraft drew the attention of local law enforcement. According to a social media post from the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Erick Garcia and 34-year-old Danny Garcia have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Following numerous witness reports of the high-speed chase and the subsequent viral spread of videos on social media platforms, the Sheriff’s Marine Services Unit pinpointed and arrested the two Oakley residents. The first suspect was detained during a traffic stop, and the second was apprehended after deputies served a search warrant at his home. Each is held on identical charges: assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and vandalism.
It was revealed that the ski boat used in the chase was discovered abandoned in a Stockton harbor. Henry K. Lee, covering the story, reported the specifics of the incident, which included the suspects ramming their boat into the victim on the jet ski.
Bail has been set at $95,000 for the accused, and as the investigation continues to unfold, the authorities are urging anyone with additional information or footage to step forward.
