A man was killed and another seriously injured in a head-on crash caused by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 285 early morning yesterday. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. at the Benjamin E. Mays Bridge when a 21-year-old man driving the wrong way on the northbound lanes collided with another vehicle driven by a 40-year-old man.

The Atlanta Police Department confirmed the death of the 40-year-old driver, identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner as Bradford Stephens. The wrong-way driver was hospitalized with critical injuries. A portion of the interstate was closed for several hours as investigators examined the scene.

Atlanta News First reported that the crash involved a Toyota Tacoma and a Nissan Sentra. Officers arriving at the scene found the driver of the Nissan unresponsive; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The 24-year-old driver of the Toyota was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The Atlanta Police Department’s Accident Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
