Tragedy struck Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood early this morning when gunfire erupted, leaving one man dead and another person wounded, as reports surfaced from multiple local outlets. Brandon Lawrence, a 30-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries at UC Medical Center after officers discovered him with a gunshot wound near a Shell gas station on Walnut Street, as LOCAL12 first reported.
The incident, which took place approximately at 12:35 a.m. near Corwine Avenue, led to a second, unnamed victim, who was able to self-transport to Christ Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. WLWT notes that the roads that were initially closed during the subsequent police investigation are now open. However, no suspect information has been released by officials, who are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to get in touch with Crime Stoppers, according to a WLWT article.
Officers and investigators have continued their work into the morning, creating a perimeter for several blocks around the crime scene, which included an extension as far as Grant Park. This area is familiar with recent violence. Just a week prior, a woman was critically shot in the head in a separate incident, as stated in a WCPO report. This earlier case also remains unsolved, with the suspect still at large.
Those with potential leads or information are implored to call the Cincinnati Police Department's homicide unit at 513-352-3542 or CrimeStoppers at 513-352-3040, where anonymity can be assured.
