Kohl's, a retail chain known for its department stores, is set to permanently shut down its E-commerce distribution center in Monroe, Ohio, a decision that'll displace a considerable number of employees in the region. According to an announcement on the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services’ website and corroborated by WLWT, the closure will take full effect by October 31, with a total of 768 workers receiving notification about the upcoming termination of their jobs, the bulk of which are in material handling positions.
The information became public on Thursday, following a pattern of store closures in the Greater Cincinnati area, where Kohl's has reduced its footprint through multiple store shutdowns. The facility located on Salzman Road, just off Hamilton Lebanon Road, will cease its operations, and Spectrum News 1 adds that the move is part of a broader series of changes from the Wisconsin-based chain, which include a 10 percent cut of its corporate workforce and an end to the Amazon returns service at some of its locations.
The layoffs are not immediate – they will phase in over the coming months, with the last working day for the majority of the employees set for September 12, 2025, although a small number may remain temporarily to manage administrative tasks; all affected workers are expected to be fully separated from the company by the end of October 2025.
