A major operation in Pāhoa led by the Hawai‘i Police Department's Vice Section, alongside Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), culminated in a remarkable haul this past Tuesday. The raid resulted in the seizure of drugs, weapons, and explosive devices at two residences on Oceanview Parkway in the Black Sand subdivision. According to details released by law enforcement, officers uncovered 289 grams of methamphetamine, 459 grams of cocaine, and over 1,700 grams of methamphetamine oil along with an arsenal that included 7 firearms and more than 6,000 rounds of ammunition.
The search of the properties exposed more than just drugs and guns, revealing potential threats far more sinister. Found in the possession, possible explosive devices and bomb-making materials were also encountered by officers. Tipped off to the imminent danger, bomb technicians from the FBI and police departments from Maui and Kaua‘i were dispatched, efficiently securing and removing two partially constructed pipe bombs on Wednesday. Other explosive materials such as black powder, flash powder, and a methamphetamine conversion lab were also discovered, according to the Hawaii Police Department press release.
Shannon Hostetler, a 54-year-old man from Pāhoa, has been arrested on multiple counts relating to drug, firearm, and explosives. At present, he remains in custody as charges against him continue to accumulate. This complex case, still weaving its narrative through the legal system, represents an ongoing investigation, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
This interception of illegal activities in Pāhoa underscores a larger combative stance against crime in Hawai‘i. The collaboration between local and federal agencies signifies a commitment to disbanding networks that undermine community safety. In their efforts to solicit public assistance, Hawai‘i Island Crime Stoppers have issued a call for anonymous tips regarding wanted individuals or illegal firearm activity. Those wishing to report can reach them at (808) 961-8300, ensuring that the threads of justice continue to unspool in the community's favor.
