The Palm Beach County Library System is once again proving its value as a cornerstone of community welfare, not just with books but with nutritional assistance for kids. This summer, children 18 and under can access free lunches at all 18 library branches, provided through a collaboration with the School District of Palm Beach County. Starting June 3 and continuing through July 25, these meals are served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day, with additional snacks available from 2 to 4 p.m., according to the county's official announcement.

However, all meals must be eaten on-site within the library's premises, ensuring children stay on location to finish their food. This rule enforces a simple level of order to the proceedings. Make a note of the scheduled dates when service will not be available, which include June 19, July 3, and July 4. For ease of access, the library's website lists all participating locations for any family looking to take advantage of the program.

Adding to the summer lunch program, free Weekend Meal Kits are also available for pickup every Friday while supplies last. This initiative has blossomed thanks to the support of two sponsors, Feeding Dreams and the Palm Beach County Food Bank.

Parents or guardians are allowed to pick up to four meal kits on behalf of their children, even if the child is not present at the time of distribution. This flexibility serves families who might not be able to bring their children to the library for pickup. Libraries involved in the distribution of Weekend Meal Kits include the Main Library, Acreage Branch, and several others detailed on the county's website.

Library Director Douglas Crane framed the importance of these programs with a direct statement, "Libraries are more than buildings, they are the heartbeat of our communities. This summer, we ensure that every child who steps inside is met with a nourishing meal, a safe space and options to open their minds to a world of unlimited opportunities. By providing free summer lunches and weekend meals, we doing more than just feeding children.  We are enriching lives, connecting communities with critical resources and inspiring thought, ensuring that every child has the support they need to thrive," as noted by the Palm Beach County release.
