A parking dispute in Little Havana escalated to violence early this morning when Edgar Morales was shot in the leg by his mother's neighbor. NBC6 reported that the altercation occurred just after Morales had parked in front of a white pick-up truck, leading to the neighbor demanding he move his vehicle. After complying and walking back to his mother's apartment, the neighbor confronted Morales with a gun, threatening him and his family.
The situation quickly spiraled: Morales told Telemundo 51 that upon moving his car, the neighbor fired at him, grazing his leg, and then attempted to shoot him again, and pointed the gun at his head, saying he was going to kill him and his family; Morales and his stepfather managed to disarm the assailant after a struggle ensued which resulted in several cuts on Morales's body, as detailed by Cibercuba.
Miami Police confirmed their response to the shooting at Southwest 27th Avenue and Fifth Street, where they found Morales wounded. The shooter eluded arrest at the time, having fled with the help of his partner before the arrival of law enforcement. Morales, with a graze wound on his leg, was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital and expected to recover.
The incident draws attention to a burgeoning pattern of gun violence in Miami, including a recent deadly outcome of another argument in Miami Gardens that resulted in two fatalities, as described by Cibercuba. Authorities are actively investigating and seeking assistance from the public in apprehending those responsible for these violent acts.
