Apache Junction Police Officer Gabriel Facio was given a nod of recognition by the Pinal County Board of Supervisors during a Special Session Meeting on Wednesday. Following the tragic events that led to Officer Facio's death on Sunday, after being shot on June 2nd in the line of duty, the Board approved a proclamation to honor his life and service. This came as the local community and his colleagues are still grappling with the shock and sorrow of losing one of their own.
As the representative for Apache Junction, District 5 Supervisor Jeff Serdy, who has served the city in various capacities, including Mayor and Councilman, solemnly read the proclamation into the record, as reported by Pinal County. It was a clear attempt to fully acknowledge the sacrifice made by Officer Facio, even though no words can truly capture the depth of such a loss. The Police Department's Commander Cindy Ewer received the proclamation on behalf of the bereaved department, joined by Supervisors Vitiello, McClure, Serdy, and Miller. Supervisor Goodman, however, was unable to attend as he was out of the country.
