Portland authorities have apprehended a man accused of a heinous series of sexual abuses against a developmentally delayed girl. Michael K. Cohron, a 64-year-old Portland resident, was arrested on Thursday, June 5, during a traffic stop, as reported by the Portland Police Bureau. The arrest was the culmination of a two-year investigation into allegations that Cohron had been abusing the victim since she was 11 years old.
The case against Cohron began in June of 2023 when the initial report of abuse surfaced. Investigations revealed a prolonged period of sexual abuse that spanned from 2016 to the time the report was filed in 2023, during which time the victim was a minor. The bond between Cohron and his victim was noted, yet the extent of his predations remained concealed beneath a veneer of assumed normalcy.
According to Portland Police, Cohron now faces a secret indictment with 52 charges arrayed against him, including first, second, and third-degree rape, sodomy, and sex abuse. This indictment was secured by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office on February 10, marking a decisive turn in a case that has surely rocked the Portland community.
Detectives are concerned that the number of victims could grow as the investigation proceeds. In light of this possibility, they have released a photo of Cohron, hoping it might unearth any additional reports. Previously residing in the Lents Neighborhood and having traveled to places like Milwaukie, Oregon, and Vermont, Cohron's past movements suggest a trail that may include untold stories waiting to surface.
