As part of a crackdown on a burglary ring that's hit an estimated 100 businesses across Portland, 34-year-old Daniel Blew was handed an 18-month prison term by Multnomah County Judge Melvin Oden-Orr on June 2, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. Blew, who also received 60 months of START Court probation, will face an additional 41-45 months behind bars in the event of probation violation.
In a move to tackle recurrent property crimes within the area, Blew pleaded guilty on May 22 to a series of charges picking up three counts of Burglary in the First Degree and not only did he confess to three specific burglaries linking back to the larger criminal network, he copped to Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle (auto theft) and Burglary in the Second Degree. His convictions are recorded under case numbers 21CR21955, 22CR46021, 25CR05562, and 25CR09675.
The case, prosecuted by Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Alexander Garcia, signifies a concerted effort to re-establish accountability in the region. In a statement obtained by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, Garcia emphasized that "Accountability will be restored in Portland and the greater Portland metropolitan area. Mr. Blew’s actions – simply put – are unacceptable," and he affirmed that there would be a relentless pursuit to bring all members of the burglary ring to justice.
Portland Police Bureau Acting Detective Consider Vosu and Elliott Walker, together with MCDA Investigator Gabriella Snedecor, received commendation from the District Attorney's Office for their diligence in the investigation, while the work of MCDA Victim Advocates Karla Juarez and Emma Kane was also highlighted. START Court, a collaborative effort between the local court, the DA's office, the Sheriff's Office, Department of Community Justice, Metropolitan Public Defender, and Volunteers of America aims to integrate community transformation with accountability and intensive supervision for high-risk, high-need, substance-abusing individuals, which has now included Mr. Blew's sentencing and rehabilitation conditions.
