Portland residents awoke to the news of an attempted burglary that was thwarted by the swift response of the Portland Police. At approximately 12:57 a.m. yesterday, officers from East Precinct were dispatched to a residence on the 2400 block of Southeast 90th Avenue after reports of a burglary in progress involving at least two masked individuals, as per official statements from Portland Police.
The officers promptly identified a vehicle departing the scene that matched the suspect vehicle's description. The driver attempted to escape when police tried to conduct a stop, leading officers to deploy spike strips that successfully disabled the vehicle by flattening its tires. Subsequently, the driver crashed near Southeast 84th and Division Street and three suspects were observed fleeing the scene. Efforts to establish a perimeter and a K9 track resulted in the arrest of all three suspects by 1:22 p.m.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle involved was stolen. Police provided images of the black, four-door sedan, showcasing the aftermath with the car partially on the curb. Thankfully, officers found that no one was harmed in the home and that nothing appeared to be missing. Signs indicated that the home was specifically targeted by the suspects, rather than being a random choice.
The apprehended individuals, all male juveniles from Portland, are facing multiple charges. Two 17-year-old males have been charged with Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Attempted Burglary in the First Degree, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer on Foot. The 15-year-old male is facing charges including Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer both in a vehicle and on foot. All three were booked into the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Facility.
