An early morning fire forced residents to escape a burning apartment building in DeKalb County, with two people injured after jumping from upper floors to avoid the flames. According to Atlanta News First, the fire began around 1 a.m. at the Mirador at Inglewood Apartments on Brockett Road in Clarkston. A man and a woman were hospitalized, with the man possibly suffering a broken leg.

The fire reportedly started in a first-floor unit and quickly spread. Freddy Lumba, a resident, told FOX 5 Atlanta he had to jump from an upstairs apartment to escape: "When I woke u, I found a lot of smoke in my house, I had to run and to jump because I live upstairs."

DeKalb Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and found flames coming from the back of the building. "Our fire investigators are here to get to the bottom of how this fire started. What we do know is that the fire started in a lower apartment on the backside of the building," Capt. Jaeson Daniels told Atlanta News First.

The American Red Cross is helping four displaced families as the investigation continues.
