A suspect is now in police custody following an assault that escalated to homicide in Pinole. According to a post from the Pinole Police Department's social media account, officers were dispatched to Bayfront Park on May 28 around 2:00 p.m. after an assault was reported on two individuals walking their dog. The attacker used a blunt object, resulting in severe injuries for both victims. While one victim required hospitalization, their identity remains undisclosed.
The investigation led to the arrest of Richmond resident Miguel Patino, 27, at his home. Charged with multiple counts, including aggravated battery and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, his actions stained Bayfront Park, which is frequently trodden by the everyday peace of dog walkers and the laughter of friends. Patino is also facing elder/dependent adult abuse charges. Last Wednesday, victim Vera Rowsey, 76, of Pinole, died due to her injuries, leading to murder charges against Patino. He is held on a $1,125,000 bail at the Martinez Detention Facility.
Pinole Mayor Cameron Sasai shared his condolences and the city's resolve in a statement published on social media by the Pinole Police Department: "Vera Rowsey was a beloved member of our Pinole community—we extend our deepest condolences to her family, impacted by this senseless act of violence."
