Residents of Salt Lake City can expect clear skies and rising temperatures throughout the week, with today's sunny forecast promising a high near a comfortable 86 degrees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). A light northwest wind is set to pick up at 5 to 10 mph as the morning progresses. Temperatures are slated to soar as the week continues, hitting a scorching high of 101 degrees by Juneteenth, as reported by the National Weather Service.
This evening, the skies will remain mostly clear with the low settling around 62 degrees. The northwest wind that's been keeping things cool will slow to a 5 to 8 mph breeze before turning light and variable post-midnight. The heatwave is on a steady climb, and Wednesday will heat up further with a high near 94 degrees. This heat is expected not just to linger but intensify, harkening the onset of a sweltering mid-June.
As obtained by the National Weather Service, nighttime during the week will bring some reprieve from the daytime heat, with Wednesday night's expectations forecasting a clear sky and a 68-degree low. Mild north-northwest winds will continue, eventually shifting to east southeast after midnight.
The high temperatures for Juneteenth are especially noteworthy, as the NWS projects sunny and hot conditions with that high cresting at 101. Southeast winds will pick up speed, ranging from 6 to 13 mph, eventually becoming south-southwest in the afternoon. Although the heat dissipates slightly as the week draws to an end, Friday will still be markedly sunny with highs lingering near 97 degrees, a subtle reminder of summer's embrace.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Salt Lake City can look forward to a reprieve from the week's peak heat. Saturday is anticipated to be sunny with a high nearing 88 degrees, with a drop at night to a cooler 53 degrees. Sunday will continue the cooling trend, offering up a high near 76 and another mostly clear night with a low around 52 degrees, as published on June 17th by the NWS.
