A man in Salt Lake City has found himself on the wrong side of the law, with a federal indictment looming over allegations of shooting at two individuals after trespassing on their property. Hiram Bokadrik, a 29-year-old resident of Salt Lake County, faces charges of unlawful firearm possession and discharging a weapon after a June 7 altercation that prompted a police response.

As detailed by the U.S. Department of Justice, Salt Lake City Police Department officers raced to a “shots fired” call at approximately 4:18 p.m. on the date in question. The authorities reported finding an expended 9mm casing at the scene. Bokadrik, having fled, was found by additional officers tucked away under a tarp in a construction zone along with a Glock 43X, later confirmed stolen from a nearby vehicle burglary that same day.

Bokadrik, unable to legally possess, purchase, transfer, or own firearms or ammunition under state and federal laws, now stands accused, as per the indictment, of several firearm-related crimes. Comprising being a restricted person in possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition, and possession of a stolen firearm itself, his slate of charges brings him before the court for an initial appearance set for June 26 at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse.

Operation Take Back America, an initiative that aims at repelling illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, folds into this narrative as Bokadrik's case is a part of their efforts, according to the same announcement from Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti. The prosecution, led by Assistant United States Attorney Victoria K. McFarland, involves contributions from the FBI Task Force and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
