Authorities in San Francisco have taken a 19-year-old into custody following an act of vandalism against the Pink Triangle, an important symbol of LGBTQ+ Pride, on the slopes of Twin Peaks. The San Francisco Police Department reported on social media that the incident occurred around 12:30 PM yesterday at Christmas Tree Point Road, when officers witnessed a male subject vandalizing the memorial.
Following a brief foot chase, officers apprehended Lester Bamacajeronimo, a resident, seizing evidence that included vandalism tools. While charges are still pending, this arrest has underscored the city's zero-tolerance stance on defacement of public symbols and monuments. "San Francisco's Pink Triangle is a powerful symbol of our city's commitment to supporting LGBT rights and commemorates to victims of the past," stated the San Francisco Police Department, as reported on Facebook.
Mayor Daniel Lurie shared his thoughts on social media, emphasizing that such acts of hostility cannot be reconciled with the city's spirit. "This hateful act of vandalism does not reflect San Francisco's values and will not be tolerated," Lurie remarked, as per KTVU, expressing gratitude towards the police for their prompt response and successful apprehension of the suspect. Aerial footage from SkyFOX later indicated that, despite the incident, the Pink Triangle appeared intact when viewed from above.
