The San José Police Department has made two arrests in connection with a gang-motivated shooting that took place earlier this year, as reported by the SJPD. The incident, which occurred on February 8, involved two suspects opening fire in a shopping center parking lot on the 1300 block of South Winchester Boulevard.

According to the San José Police Department, the attack unfolded around 12:15 PM. On a busy weekend day, myriad persons were present when Jacobo Guzman-Flores, aged 20, and a second youth, who was 18 years old and considered a juvenile at the time, began shooting at two other males. The victims managed to escape the scene by retreating to their vehicle and driving away. In an unsettling disregard for public safety, the gunfire began while many civilians were in the vicinity, but no injuries were reported.

The Gang Investigations Unit of the SJPD initiated an investigation and eventually identified the two suspects. Arrest and search warrants were issued for both Guzman-Flores and the juvenile suspect. On June 11, Guzman was apprehended in Redwood City, and the second suspect was taken into custody in San José. A gun with an altered serial number was among several gang-related items discovered during the search warrant execution at the suspects' homes.

Both suspects are now facing charges for assault with a deadly weapon motivated by gang affiliation, illegal discharge of a firearm, and related firearm possession offenses. Following their arrest, having fled the scene before police could arrive, Guzman was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail, and the juvenile was booked into the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall. Anyone with additional information about this incident should contact Detective Guevara of the San José Police Department's Gang Investigations Unit.
