Following reports of a sexual assault on the Los Gatos Creek Trail on Wednesday, San José Police Department (SJPD) officers have arrested 21-year-old Pablo Chan on charges related to two violent sexual assaults in the area. An adult female survivor bravely came forward with her account of an unprovoked attack, and Chile SJP's quick response and investigation led to the identification of Chan, who was detained less than two days later, as stated in an announcement by the San José Police Department.
The initial incident was reported on Willow Street near Leigh Avenue, an adult female survivor reported being thrown to the ground and sexually assaulted by an unknown male, but she managed to fight back, escape, and call for help, afterward, a second adult female came forward with a similar account involving a suspect matching the same description increasing the urgency of the situation for SJPD. A comprehensive investigation by the SJPD Sexual Assaults Investigations Unit, aided by multiple other units and community engagement, enabled police to identify the suspect promptly.
Chan, a Campbell resident with two outstanding misdemeanor warrants, was apprehended by SJPD's Special Operations MERGE Unit officers yesterday outside a commercial parking lot close to Leigh Avenue and De Rose Way. His multiple charges include felony aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault. He now awaits proceedings at the Santa Clara County Main Jail, stated the SJPD, noting the collaboration between various units, including the Real Time Intelligence Center, the Covert Response Unit, Patrol Division, Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), Campbell Police Department, and the city's residents themselves.
