
Authorities responded to a small blaze near Santee’s Walmart on Town Center Parkway Monday evening after witnesses reported seeing a man ignite the contents of a trash can. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred at approximately 6:32 PM yesterday. Deputies and fire department personnel were dispatched to the scene, where they detained 30-year-old suspect Ryan Crist.
A second witness's call to the Sheriff's Dispatch indicated they had spotted an individual setting fire to the trash can just outside the parking lot area. Upon their arrival, deputies quickly apprehended Crist without significant delay. The fire was rapidly extinguished by Santee Fire personnel, and no serious property damage was reported, save for the scorched refuse container.
Following identification by witnesses, Crist was arrested on charges of arson. It was reported that he was booked into San Diego Central Jail thereafter. Local authorities' quick and efficient response prevented what could have escalated into a larger incident, ensuring community safety and property protection.
