Las Cruces firefighters were called to action on Wednesday, as three separate fires erupted over 13 hours, leaving one individual with injuries. As reported by the City of Las Cruces, the first incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. at the Discount Tire store located at 420 S. Telshor Blvd. Firefighting crews arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from the second-floor storage area, but successfully extinguished the blaze, allowing the business to reopen the same day.
Later in the day, shortly before 6 p.m., the situation escalated when firefighters rushed towards a burning shed at the corner of Lohman Avenue and Solano Drive. Encountering a frantic bystander, they warned firefighters that a man could be trapped inside. Rescuers managed to pull out the man, who was then airlifted to a specialized burn care facility after initial treatment at a local hospital. The current condition of the victim has not yet been disclosed, and the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
The third fire broke out around 8:20 p.m. in a vacant residential building on the 400 block of East Court Avenue. Fire crews tackled the burning structure from various angles, gaining control within 10 minutes of their arrival. Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries from this incident, but the reasons behind the conflagration, as well as the cost of the damages incurred, remain under investigation.
