A tragic fire swept through a historic mansion in American Fork yesterday, resulting in the death of several animals. As reported by KUTV, the blaze, which firefighters battled for over two hours, erupted at the Chipman Mansion, a landmark at 280 South and Center Street. The American Fork Fire Department rushed to the scene around 11 a.m., hoping to contain the flames quickly.

Meanwhile, KSLTV reported that an off-duty firefighter, who first spotted the smoke, attempted to gain entry into the building but was hindered by its aged, heavy doors and the lack of available tools. "He tried to make entry, but because the home is relatively old, the doors were heavy and he didn’t have any tools or anything to access it," Battalion Chief Brandon Boshard told KSLTV. The proximity of the fire department, merely three blocks away, allowed for a swift response. Boshard detailed the initial challenges upon arrival, including heavy smoke and the mansion's distance from the road, which caused difficulties for the firefighting efforts.

According to FOX 13 Now, amidst the chaos of the fire, first responders were able to rescue around six to seven cats, though many sustained injuries. Unfortunately, it is believed that two cats perished in the flames.
