Residents in parts of southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia should brace for potential severe weather today. The National Weather Service in Morristown, TN, has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook, highlighting the possibility of "another round of strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening." According to the alert, the primary risks are damaging winds and torrential downpours.
The forecast for Knoxville, provided by NWS Knoxville, confirms an overcast morning with showers and thunderstorms likely to follow into the evening hours. The area has a near 70% chance of precipitation later tonight, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch possible. The region is partially recovering from heavy rainfall experienced yesterday, which raises concern over isolated flash flooding, especially in locations already saturated by prior precipitation.
Looking ahead, the "unsettled pattern with daily chances for showers and storms will continue into early next week," as stated by the Hazardous Weather Outlook. A very low chance for additional strong to severe storms exists for Sunday, with the main threats being potentially damaging winds and isolated flooding issues.
