Authorities in Houston are conducting an investigation after skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area at 300 Mercury Drive yesterday afternoon. The HPD Homicide Division was called to the scene around 3:15 p.m. following a report of the grim find.
Detective C. Vaughn of the HPD Homicide Division noted that upon arrival, police officers confirmed the presence of human remains and promptly involved forensic experts from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences but the results of the autopsy including the determination of the individual's identity, gender, and cause of death are still pending, according to the City of Houston.
The ongoing investigation seeks to unravel the circumstances surrounding the individual's death, and the authorities are urging anyone with potentially relevant information to come forward and contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
As the community waits for answers, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences plays a key role in uncovering how unknown bones ended up in the quiet woods. HPD homicide detectives, working with forensic investigators, confirmed that "the skeletal remains were human," as reported by the City of Houston.
