The Smyrna Public Library has announced it will be temporarily closing its doors from June 30 through July 3 for HVAC upgrades. According to an official release posted on the City of Smyrna website, these necessary improvements aim to ensure a more comfortable environment for patrons.
While the physical library space will not be accessible, the library staff are making alternative arrangements to keep their services running. All previously scheduled library events during this period will be held at the Reed House, located at 3080 Atlanta Road, Smyrna, Georgia. "Library patrons signed up for these events will receive emails from the library alerting them to the new location", the City of Smyrna stated. To better continue to serve the community through the closure, Curbside Pickup will be offered during specified times in the morning and evening.
Understanding that a closed library affects their visitors' ability to return items, the library has announced an adjustment in their operational protocol. "The library has altered all existing due dates so that no materials will be due June 30 through July 4," noted the City of Smyrna's communication. This decision ensures that no patron will be unfairly penalized with overdue fines due to the closure.
Additionally, the library aims to provide a seamless transition for those who have undoubtedly planned to stop by during the closure. Curbside Pickup is to be available twice a day – in the morning from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and in the evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. To further accommodate returns, the Book Drop will remain open throughout the maintenance period. Patrons are instructed to text a posted number upon arrival for Curbside Pickup, as per the Smyrna library officials.
Although closed for the July 4th holiday, the library will reopen for normal hours on Saturday, July 5. The city's notice concludes with a message of gratitude stating, "Again, thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to seeing you at our programs and back in the library on or after July 5."
