A police pursuit in Springfield on Tuesday morning ended with the arrest of 42-year-old Ian James and injuries to a police officer. James, a suspect in a May 31 armed robbery, fled from officers after refusing to comply with a traffic stop.

Accormding to the Springfield Police Department, officers attempted to stop James on Main Street after receiving a tip about his location. He fled, leading officers on a high-speed chase through the city and onto I-291. The pursuit ended when James crashed into two police cruisers. He then attempted to escape on foot by climbing out of his car window but was arrested near a guardrail. A female passenger was detained and later released.

Police found two bags of cocaine and a knife in James’s possession. One officer was evaluated for injuries at Baystate Medical Center and later released. No other individuals were injured, including the driver of a vehicle James struck during the pursuit.

After receiving medical treatment, James was booked on multiple charges, including firearm-armed and masked robbery, resisting arrest, and various drug and vehicle offenses. The investigation is ongoing.
