St. Louis Park is calling for all local artists and environmental enthusiasts to bring their creative skills forward in a unique artistic endeavor. The city has launched the Cart Art in the Park contest, an initiative that combines public art with sustainability. According to a recent bulletin, residents are invited to submit original artwork that embodies the theme of "organics recycling" for a chance to see their work adorn organics carts across the local community.
Submissions for the eco-focused art competition will be accepted through June 23. The goal is to promote the city's multifamily organics programs, which encourage residents in apartments, townhomes, and condos to compost food scraps, transforming waste into a resource. Participants are asked to focus their artwork on this green initiative, making an artistic statement that could potentially influence better waste behavior.
The grand unveiling of the winning artwork will see the designs turned into two-dimensional, 11-inch by 17-inch decals, which will then be displayed on organic carts across 11 multifamily organics drop-sites within the city. These mobile mini-murals will have a minimum residency of one year, providing ample time for the public to absorb their message and, ideally, to get involved in organic recycling.
