The Missouri Attorney General's Office is ushering in a new era of communication with the appointment of Stephanie Whitaker as the new Director of Communications. In a move announced today by Attorney General Andrew Bailey, Whitaker is set to bring her extensive experience to the forefront of the state's legal communications strategy. "Stephanie and I have previously worked together to serve Missouri citizens, and I’m excited to have her join our team," Bailey said. "She’s brilliant in communications strategy, and I am confident that she will lead our communications team with insight and integrity," he added according to the Attorney General's Office official announcement.
Whitaker's background in state government stretches over seven years, with her most recent post as the Missouri House of Representatives’ majority communications director. There she managed to skillfully navigate both media and public relations for a substantial cohort of 110 state representatives. She took the helm as former Governor Mike Parson’s director of communications since July 2023. In that role, Whitaker led communications efforts across Missouri’s 17 Executive Branch agencies and helped to strategically spearhead the Show-Me Strong Recovery Plan’s communications campaign during the COVID-19 pandemic, among her other duties.
Prior to her tenure with the Governor's Office, Whitaker cut her teeth in the Elections Division with the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office, and before that, as a national proposal specialist for BKD, LLP, which has since rebranded to FORVIS, LLP. The Director of Communications is an Evangel University alumni, sporting a Bachelor of Arts in Political Communication. "I am honored to be joining Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s team and their mission to serve Missourians by protecting the Constitution and upholding the rule of law," Whitaker stated, reflecting her commitment to the new role.
Her latest professional chapter with the Attorney General's Office is expected to not only enhance the scope of internal and external communications but to also promote a deeper understanding of the AG's initiatives and legal activities among Missouri's populace. Whitaker is bringing her proven skills to the table, to actively shape and disseminate the narrative of the Attorney General’s office.
