Early Tuesday morning, a vehicle theft culminated in a dramatic crash outside an East Memphis tire shop. Action News 5 reports that the Memphis Police Department responded around 4:44 a.m. to a collision on Poplar Avenue near South Highland Street, where they found a car flipped upside-down after striking a pole and colliding with the Firestone tire shop's garage door.

The suspect had already fled the scene when officers arrived, and following an inquiry into the registration, the vehicle's owner was notified around 5:15 a.m. that her car had been involved in an accident and was identified as stolen; the owner, unsurprised, told police that she had parked her car the previous evening and was unaware of the theft until that morning, and the Memphis Police Department continues their search for the unidentified suspect who remains at large. WREG captured a photo at the scene showing the car's precarious position inches from the building and noted that a broken key cover from the vehicle was found at the apartment complex from where the car was allegedly taken.

Adding to the incident's details, the woman explained to police, as FOX13 Memphis reported, she had parked her Kia Soul near her home at the Park Terrace Apartments on Poplar Avenue around midnight, investigators discovered no broken glass where the vehicle was last parked but they did recover a broken key cover belonging to the car.
