In a sobering encounter at Mike Day Park, Suisun City Police Department (SCPD) officers faced a distressing situation involving a man with a firearm that ended tragically yesterday. SCPD officers were dispatched following a welfare check call around 11:30 AM. They found the man, a 35-year-old from Antioch, threatening his own life with the weapon, according to the Suisun City Police Department.
As additional aid was awaited, law enforcement attempted communication to de-escalate the tense scene, but the individual did not respond and subsequently died by suicide; medical personnel were also on the scene, but, despite immediate intervention, pronounced the man deceased right there. During this engagement, SCPD officers did not discharge their firearms, with the only shot fired being that of the individual's own doing.
The incident has prompted an investigation by the Solano County District Attorney’s Office Major Crimes Task Force, a typical procedure when a person dies during an interaction involving police presence. The identity of the deceased is being kept confidential at this time pending notification of his family members.
