Residents and commuters in St. Charles Parish, prepare for a summer shuffle as the parish rolls out its road maintenance program. Barriere Construction, the firm tapped for the job, has a slew of resurfacing projects that will result in a series of road closures and detours sure to test the local drivers’ patience. The work commenced last Tuesday, June 3 and is set to span over the course of the following weeks, with activities including patching, milling, and paving operations.

According to St. Charles Parish's official website, areas affected include Gassen Street from Hackberry Street to the railroad tracks in Luling, East Heather Drive in front of Lakewood Elementary, and a cluster of horse-themed lanes in St. Rose. For those dependant on these routes, the time has come to consult the GPS for alternative pathways; however, alleviation comes with the news that each segment of work is expected to last only the day it's scheduled on.

One particular stretch to note is East Heather Drive at the West Entrance to Lakewood Elementary, scheduled for a full road closure during the week of June 9. This will be a round-the-clock closure, leaving no room for even emergency vehicles to pass. The directive is clear – plan ahead and allow extra transit time.

On the topic of roadblocks, don't expect to breeze through the Kerry’s Pointe area anytime soon. Beginning May 5, construction of the Kerry’s Pointe ramp lift put the brakes on the usual flow between Badeaux Ln. and the pointe itself, with the promise of delays stretching over several weeks, as per the St. Charles Parish advisory. And if your go-to route includes Ormond Center Court in Destrehan, it would be wise to heed the detour signs sprouted from the roadwork currently obstructing paths from Rotolo's Pizza to Buddy's Frostop.

Add to the mix a partial closure on US 90 Westbound starting last Tuesday, recurring daily until yesterday, June 4, from 8 AM to 3 PM for median work.
